Red Bull confirmed earlier this week that Gianpiero Lambiase will leave the team to join McLaren in 2028.
Former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya commented on Gianpiero Lambiase’s departure from Red Bull, expressing that Red Bull could have matched McLaren’s offer for Lambiase. Montoya highlighted that Lambiase will now have a more significant role at McLaren as chief racing officer. He also mentioned that Lambiase’s exit has cast doubt on Max Verstappen’s future at Red Bull, especially given the team’s current performance struggles. Montoya suggested that if Red Bull does not find improvements in their performance, Verstappen may seek to leave the team, potentially opening up an opportunity for a move to Mercedes.
